Are you passionate about sustainable agriculture? Do you have a
scientific background in agriculture, with a good working knowledge of
rice pests, pathogens and solutions? Do you see genetically
engineered rice as the wrong direction for agriculture in Asia and are
you keen to be part of creating and promoting real, sustainable rice
farming solutions? Greenpeace International is seeking a sustainable
agriculture expert to play a key advisory role in our campaign to
promote sustainable rice farming and to oppose the introduction of
genetically engineered rice.

Your skills, qualifications and background:

· Practical knowledge of rice sustainable farming in several
countries in Asia;
· Practical and scientific knowledge of pests, pathogens and
solutions in the context of rice;
· Demonstrable track record of opposition to genetically
engineered rice;
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Your tasks:
---------------
· Produce one main report on sustainable rice farming
solutions in Asia by September 2005;
· Provide ongoing expert advice on ecologically sustainable
methods for managing specific rice pests and diseases in Asia;
· Provide case studies, Q&A's and research materials on
specific rice pests, diseases and sustainable farming solutions,
focusing on China, India and Thailand;
· Conduct internal research training for campaigners in China,
Thailand and India;
· Review campaign materials and fact sheets ;
· Provide advice to campaigners and participate in meetings on
ecologically sustainable rice farming;
· Give input and assist in organizing rice solutions workshop in
Asia;
· Participate in public seminars, press conferences and
meetings with officials to explain/promote ecologically sound rice
farming solutions.
The position will be based in Asia and will require frequent
international travel. Working part-time is possible. The application
deadline is Friday 13th May 2005.
