Bio:
Zhi Shao (時昭) is among the first group of managers of Chinese wikipedia and a steward of wikimedia responsible for the development and localizing of wikipedia, as well as the adaptation of wiki as a form of open publishing tool in China. He is also a member of Social Brain, a Non-government organization in Mainland China that concerns about the impact of technology to society and advocates free culture and open content practice.
Abstract:
The mission of Wikipedia is to build an encycopedia that allows people from all over the world to share freely, and the community of wikipedia is organized accordingly to the above objective. A unique community is formed: they believe in openness (everyone can edit the items), trust (rather than depending on professional quality), cooperation (via wiki), respecting each other (listen to each other's voice) and reciprocal culture (depending on the participation of volunteers) and exchange. Through these principles, Wikipedians have constructed a social network based on trust. In the process of localization in China, Wikipedia plays important role in the development of Internet, for example copyright, community democracy, education and broadening of Chinese wiki.
