Like you, 屈小姐, I worked as a teacher at the university level in Hong Kong.

As scholars, I think we should try to understand why many students have become so "rebellious." Try not to think that they are “impolite” for no good reason. Of course, it doesn't mean the students are doing right all the time. But:

Does it make sense to worry so much about good manners, when the government has been for years ignoring the basic importance of social diversity, respect for political autonomy, and the welfare and participation of citizens whose salary is less than $14,000? The dignity of equal citizenship, after all.

That is why many teachers united to support the Umbrella Movement.

Facing the menace of political paternalism and authoritarianism, you (and quite a few people in Hong Hong) care a lot about good manners. Isn't this puzzling?
